Who was Jesus?
Jesus
lived - that is an undisputed fact.
There
is much evidence outside of the bible to support his life and works as
well as evidence from the bible itself. This evidence is both
reliable and abundant and, in terms of historical transcripts, is the
best possible.
We
also know that Jesus was fully human; he had a human body, lived as a
human and experienced human emotions and feelings. Just like all
humans, he felt tiredness, hunger, anger, love, and sadness. He
experienced temptation, learning, work and obedience. Unlike all
humans, Jesus was the only person never to have sinned.
Some
people consider Jesus was a prophet. However, Jesus claimed he was much
more than this and, unlike most prophets who direct attention away from
themselves towards something more substantial, Jesus did not do this -
instead he drew attention to himself.
Jesus was and
is the Son of God. Jesus
always centered his teachings on himself; ' I am the bread of life'
(John 6:35), 'I am the light of the World' (John 8 :12). Jesus always claimed to be the Son of God and he
assumed the authority of God, forgave sins and said that one day he
would judge the World.
Jesus led a
selfless life, caring for others and putting their needs before his
own. Jesus died for all of us, so that we could be restored in our
relationship with God, be forgiven for our sins and receive the promise
of eternal life.
